THANK GOD ITS NOT FRIDAY

AS SEEN IN 100% BIKER ISSUE 198

The “Thank God its NOT Friday bike show” now in its third year.  Is a Tuesday evening charity event run by the Armed Forces Bikers at the Robin Hood pub Icklesham in deepest East Sussex.

Hearing good things about this event, I booked some time off work, packed my camera and headed off. I had also found out that Icklesham had a windmill making it even more of a reason to go. The fact that this windmill was the recording studio for Paul McCartney did not faze me; I have long got over my fear and dread of the frog song, and I do not apologise for anyone who I have left that earworm for, boom de boom bah dit dah, boom de boom bah dit dah we all stand together.

So having photographed the mill, sadly without sails I was parked up nice and early to watch the bikes come in. With the national tabloids declaring “Phew what a scorcher” the great weather brought out lots of great bikes, and the organisers and staff at the pub were working flat out to serve the masses, the queue  for the bar was always outside the pub, and the BBQ had to send out for more food. But no one grumbled it was a really relaxed evening.

Each bike had a card with a number handed to them on entry and all bikes were included in the judging, not an envious task but managed well by the team, Cherry Bomb provided the music, there was a chance to try your hand at archery  and there was a raffle but this event really just needed the bikes.

The winners I can recall were:

Trike the crazy VMAX trike

Small bike the Puch with dropped handlebars

Best American the lovely black Indian

Best in show the red Guzzi Chop

The bike I would have wanted to ride home was the no44 chop built for the forthcoming “Dirtquake” it was ridden with enthusiasm and I look forward to seeing it race.

All in a cracking evening and it was sad to leave but as twilight came I headed home a great evening and who needs an excuse for a 188 mile ride.
